Talking Magic: The Gathering Players?

Yup I couldn't find a thread so I made one.

Who play's Magic: The Gathering here? If so what kind of player are you? Casual, competitive etc. What colors and kind of strategy with them?

Also who's going to the Prerelease of Ravnica? And what do you think of it's build?

For the spoilers go to

MTGsalvation.com

And any other magic talk can be here also.

I still play occasionally. Never went beyond casual though, usually just with a group 0f 3-4 friends. I usually play W/U or W/B. Probably will buy some of the new set, the only two sets that I bought much of were Onslaught and Invasion.

I WAS a Magic player. There are basically none in the town that I live in now. The last set that was out when I actively played was Onslaught... which was like two years ago I think. For me, Magic will never be better than it was during the Invasion cycle. That was the most fun I ever had with Magic.

If there were players here, I'd still try and play casually. I don't have any new cards, but I have some hilarious multi-players decks that are a TON of fun to play. And of course I still have my old White Weenie deck. It isn't legal in any format anymore (4 Enlightened Tutors no good in type 1 ) but before the BIG Extended rotation when they took out Ice Age it was a great deck. I T8'ed every tournament I played with it... I even had a decent record against Trix. Ah... the memories.

Sometimes I miss Magic, but I don't have the money to keep up with the cards anymore. If I could just play with my older ones, that'd be fine with me.

I ran a prismatic deck back in Invasion that was a blast to play.

Yeah I had a Domain/Collective Restraint deck back then too. But when it came to Invasion Block tournaments I always just ran pure R/G beats. I was always a fan of simple and effective.

There have been alot of "in" decks over the years, among those I've faced regularly(and recently) are Goblin(ugh), Affinity, and Tooth n' Nail. I've only run an Onslaught block W/B cleric deck since Mirrodin came out. Does fine on its own, and was cheap to put together.

Invasion block and Ice Age Extended were my favorite environements ever. Well... and multi-player of course. At college we used to get like 10 guys together at one table and play. It was absolute insanity... the most fun you can have with your clothes on. Huge creatures, powerful enchantments, people leaning across the table saying "WTH does THAT do?" Oh yeah... if you haven't done it, give it a try. You'll be sold.

Back when I was in HS, there was a group of us, about 8 or so, that used to meet every morning and play durring homeroom. The school even gave us exclusive use of the library. By the end of the year, there were probably closer to 15 of us.

Hahah I was wondering when magic players would pop up. I mean Guild wars skills resemble magic the gathering very closely

I play a G/W elf deck centered around Serra's avatar with my friends and familly. They absolutely hate it!

4xPriestess of Titania
4xTimberwatch elves
3xWirewood heralds
3xQuirion rangers
2xSilklash spiders
2xWirewood channelers
2xCaller of the claw
1xGeas' Herald
1xEladamri lord of leaves
1xSerra Avatar

4x Academi rector
2x Whispsilk cloak
2x Noblepurpouse
2x Elven Guidance
2x Elven cashe
2x Eladamri's call
1x Phyrexian processor
1xAbsolute law

4x Elfhame palace
1xRifstone portal
10xForest
10xPlains
----
:P I love this deck, quick and very powerful. It would suck against control but they haven't figured out how to play it against me properly. (Boomerang anyone?)

Why no Natural Order? Or is there a new card that does the same thing better? I don't know about the last two years worth of sets.

I play competetive..

Current extended deck is Life
Current type 2 is Viridian Rats

I'm looking forward to U/B in Ravnica... it looks to be the strongest...

Oh the memories. I first got started when apocalypse still had a couple months before the next set. I liked the invasion set and still is my favorite. Mirrodin is the one I hate the most with it's godly cards and broken decks but now the mirrodin block will rotate out and Ravnica, Kamagawa and soon 9th will be in. Problem will be the Japanese theme set won't easily blend into the new Ravnica well at all. Basically kama isolated itself.

I'm a big White Fan but B/U and W/B or just mono W is fine with me. I also have the problem of nothing to do with magic here. Being in Montanna kinda sucks. =P especially in a small town.

Oh yeah hello fellow guildmate. I just joined your guild from the one I used to lead.
(Refering so Shadowstorm Mercenaries I just joined)

Keeping up with Type 2 is just way too expensive for me. I just can't afford it. When I tried, I was always broke. Competitive Magic is just too expensive for us po' folks. Casual multiplayer Magic FTW!

And welcome Detis.

Yeah I'm just casual but I like to keep up to date. Is too expensive (money and brainpower) to try to be competitive.

I really like the Kamigawa set, they furthered the Rat, spirit and snake tribal decks.

They where also very acurate with all the creatures and names.

My phantom Nantuko,s Phantom centaurs and Phantom tiger from judgement are back inthe game !

Oh yes the Kamigawa (sorry for added the extra 'A') was very well done but will still be slightly hard to use with the next set is all I'm saying.

I still have to ask about that deck... why no Natural Order? Instant tutor for any fat creature in the deck so long as you have a green creature in play. Gets around graveyard removal. And why no Verdent Force? Best... fatty... EVAR!

I have cards, but i never learned how to play... but i have a friend who has won tornements and stuff and he really wants to teach me (his uncle owns a buch of card shops in the BC area so his deck is pretty much unstopable to most normal players)... so i hope to learn from him and possible get a better deck for it... however right now i can hardly read a card, magic has like its own language or something...

feel free to call me a dork, but personaly im more of a yu-gi-oh person, its quick and easy to learn.. well its not always quick, my brother had a 4 hour duel with one of his 40 year old friends or something...

So hopefuly one day i will learn how to play magic, sounds fun and intresting...
